About Us > Our History >> Service In Schools >>> Leadership Development

As part of the Leadership Development, City Year uses the “ServeToWork” model to develop its participants to be professional and ready for the world of work. The “ServeToWork” model focuses on providing practical wok experience for our participant through the work we do in schools and a rigorous training and leadership development programme. There is an emphasis throughout the year on developing civic knowledge and skills, and equipping young people with the tools to be active, responsible participants in our society.

Service Leaders are provided with both Service Related and Personal Development training, designed to help them be successful as they move on to the next step in their lives, beyond the City Year programme.

Training Components include:

Early Childhood Development

Basic Computer Skills

Career Development Training

Training is provided by accredited service providers at City Year South Africa’s HQ in Johannesburg.

Every second Friday of the month City Year South Africa’s corps members come together to reflect on the work they do in schools and for Leadership Development. These days are designed to develop the leadership skills of our Service Leaders, by giving them access to leaders from all sectors of society.
